When To Go
A rough guide to the best months
Please bear in mind this guide is based on the weather conditions i have experienced over the last 4 years since i have owned the lake.
March
The Lake is closed until the last week in March when the fishing can be quite good if the weather has been mild. 2007 saw good mild weather at the end of March and fishing was good for the time of year.
2008 saw the weather to be very cold with snow and catches to be down on 2007 as expected.
April
The first signs of spring and the lake is now fully open and the carp are feeding strong after their winter rest.
As you would expect fishing can be excellent. A great month for fishing!
May
Spring is nearly over and summer is coming, temperatures are rising warming the water and the carp are feeding big time. As the carp pack on the weight ready for spawning this is a great time to catch one of Bossards monster carp.
Some time in May or June, the carp will spawn which will slow the action down for a few days but what a great month to catch carp.
June
Another great month as the water hits its peak temperature.
The angler who times his visit after the carp have finished spawning is likely to have a trip of a lifetime as the carp are on a feeding frenzy.
July/August
The lake is at its full summer glory with anglers having some good catches as the weather reaches its peak it seems the larger residents keep on feeding.
Some anglers are put off by the warmer weather but trust me, its a great time to catch the larger carp plus its a good time to bring the wife or the girlfriend! (So they can get a tan!)
September
One of the best months of the year for the angler seeking a monster carp. Water temperatures are still good and the weather is normally still good too. With warm days and cool evenings the carp instinctively sense Autumn is on its way and start feeding heavily to pack on the weight for winter.
October/November
My best months of the year especially glorious Octobers late year action! With carp still packing on the weight for the winter some great catches can be had!! That's what we call autumn/early winter carping at its best!
